Mission 1 "Intercepting A Strange Signal"

Fresh from the shipyards at Al Shauda, the RVH Venture sets out on its first mission, which turns out to be anything but routine. Some where out in the depths of space the Venture picks up a strange signal? What will this mean? Only time will tell. Rated: PG-15

"K’Mara, said Iana…. Tell be more about your mission…. From the information I have available to me…your vessel is a science ship".

Iana furtively continued to scan the Klingon’s bio signs…K’Mara’s vital signs continued to scan as high and somewhat erratic…

Iana probed K’Mara’s mind and watched her bodily movements very closely…. K’Mara was definitely hiding something…. What it was Iana could not say.

"When the Captain arrives…. Together we will be able to garner more information…. The Captain has telepathic skills also, thought Iana"

"Yes we were on a Scientific Mission…. The details of which I cannot fully disclose…. Our mission was not completely successful as you can see by our presence here…Though maybe it can be redeemed, if we can somehow get back to our own time."

"Returning to your own time…. Said Iana, Is perhaps possible…. That is completely out of my hands. It will have to be determined by the Captain and others…"

"K’Mara, said Iana …tell me about your life on your home world…. Just how is it being raised in the Klingon Empire…" (Iana wanted to keep K’Mara talking, she might slip up and say something to clear up what she was leaving unspoken.)

K’Mara began speaking … and Iana gave her what appeared to be her full attention…however Iana was scanning and probing the Klingon in tandem retrieving bio-scans and mental data…Iana was determined to find out what the Klingon was keeping hidden….

"K’Mara is very conflicted about something … hopefully the Captain will be here soon…."

<<<Private Room Containing Mnheia>>>

Rising from her position in the small room, Mnheia walked over to the doorway, instructed it to close and latch and headed for the bridge.

‘A non-aggressive Klingon! Hah!’ thought Mnheia. ‘I’ll clear that matter up!’

Mnheia walked to the turbo lift and instructed it to take her to the CNC—command and control center. A brief whiff of newness filled the air as she waited for the turbo lift to arrive at its destination. Looking at the panels of the turbo lift she noticed that they had been replaced recently. Not sure by who…. Or why. But the new panels were nice. Arriving at the CNC Mnheia noticed that the Klingon and her science officer seemed to be in the middle of a conversation. Walking over closely she over heard part of it.

<Snip>"When the Captain arrives…. Together we will be able to garner more information….the Captain has telepathic skills also, thought Iana"<Snip>

’I am telepathic?????!!!!’ thought the captain in amazement. ‘I am so limited in my telepathic ability! I can receive messages but without a lot of effort I cannot transmit anything. That must be what she is referring to,’ thought captain Mnheia.

Walking over to the Klingon Mnheia leaned on a console and waited until there was a break in the conversation. Then she looked at the Klingon square in the eye and said:

"I hear you feel there is such a thing as a ‘non-aggressive’ Klingon. I am very much aware of Klingons that have taken up occupations in other then the warrior filed. I have always felt that they only buried their aggressive nature though. Kind of like the way the Vulcans bury their emotions. I am part Klingon myself and would be very interested in your response."

The room filled with tension as all eyes (what few there were) turned and looked at the Klingon and waited for a reply.

As Captain Mnheia stepped onto the bridge all the bridge officers drew themselves up a little straighter.

The Captain appeared to be angry as she stalked directly over to Iana and the Klingon science officer K’Mara.

K’Mara turned to Captain Mnheia as the Captain said …

QUOTE

"I hear you feel there is such a thing as a ‘non-aggressive’ Klingon. I am very much aware of Klingons that have taken up occupations in other then the warrior filed. I have always felt that they only buried their aggressive nature though. Kind of like the way the Vulcans bury their emotions. I am part Klingon myself and would be very interested in your response."

"Captain…. K’Mara nearly growled…. I NEVER said that Klingon’s posses a non-aggressive nature…. What I said was that "WE DO HAVE AN AGGRESSIVE NATURE NATURALLY."

"You must have misinterpreted my statement… continued K'Mara, which by the way was discussed when you were not present…."

"I take it that you have us under surveillance… you should replay your surveillance footage ... you will see that naturally I am correct"

" I spoke of my people not being all of the same cut… said K'Mare starting to tremble with rage. "How you feel about what I have chosen as my profession is of no concern to me.... My aggressive nature is not buried as to be "Vulcan" like... I have chosen to serve the empire using my mind as well as my body... "I am a Scientist ... this is my reality...I as all true Klingons serve."

"True no other occupation in the Empire is as honored as the Warrior…. But all occupations are necessary to make the Empire the great entity… that it is…".

Drawing herself up to her full nearly two meter stature K'Mara said forcefully..."Have a care Captain…. I AM A FULL-BLOODIED KLINGON AND I WILL DEFEND MY HONOR AND THE EMPIRE WITH MY LIFE IF NECESSARY….

K’Mara was trembling with what could only be barely suppressed rage….

The Klingon visibly took a deep breath and tried to regain control of her anger.

"Now Captain Mnheia… K'Mara said. Is there anything else you would like me to clear up?"

Iana looked at the Captain and sent her a message via the temple communicator.

~Now….Captain she is seething with anger….I will ask her what it is that she is holding back… I know it is not without great effort that you can use your telepathic skills…but K’Mara is so angry her mind is more easily accessible now. ~

"Excuse me…. " Iana interrupted before the Captain could reply…

"K’Mara what has you so conflicted…. You are holding something back … I can feel it…. What is it that you really want?"

Selia had no use for these Klingons. They were unruly and disgusting to no end. Must to her displeasure Kor had made his way back and was now downing an extra large mug of bloodwine.

"Would you care to gave some?" he asked, slopping wine everywhere.

Selia brushed her uniform to get the drops away. "No thank you. Haven’t you had enough?"

The Klingon was indignant. "Who can ever have too much bloodwine." Kor took another long swig and then tapped Selia. "It is good for the soul."

"I did not know Klingons had souls," Selia said under her breath.

Kor's forehead wrinkled. "Romulans are too much like Vulcans. You have no pleasure in your life."

Selia wasn't sure if Kor had insulted her. "My life is fine, thank you very much." She tried to inch away but Kor was relentless.

"This is a time for celebration," Kor said. "No stuffy faces." He drank more bloodwine and it dripped down his chin.

Selia rolled her eyes and once again tried to move away. "If you don't mind…"

Kor looked at Selia through his drunken eyes. "I do mind," he said. "You should be a better host." He waved his free hand in the air and then brought it down. "I need to go." Kor turned, took two steps and then feel flat on his face.

Selia looked down at the prone Klingon with much disgust.

Iana waited for K’Mara to reply to her question of what she (K’Mara) was hiding and what she really wanted.

K’Mara looked at Iana with fire in her eyes and began to visibly tremble. Iana looked at Captain Mnheia and back to the Klingon…

"I know K’Mara is hiding something…"

"I know you do not trust us K’Mara …but … We mean you no harm …we have done nothing to garner your mistrust. I suggest you tell us what it is that is upsetting you so. "

K’Mara’s bio scans continued to climb. …

"You are a scientist…. K’Mara, make a tentative assumption and draw your conclusion using the facts at hand, … mull them over in your mind and come to a conclusion…I am sure that you will see that I am right…. We are here to help you and your crewmates…We have no reason not to."

"Remember … we are at peace with the Empire and we are now allies…"

Iana continued to speak to K’Mara non-stop … Iana was forcing the Klingon to listen to her and at the same time monitoring K’Mara’s bio scans…

K’Mara’s vitals were climbing at an exponential rate.

Suddenly … from K’Mara’s throat issued an earsplitting scream … she grabbed her head … her body gave a violent tremor and she crumpled to the floor…

<<RVH Venture Bridge>>

Iana knelt quickly and began to scan K’Mara. "Her vitals are off the scale"…though Iana to herself as she focused all her attention on the unconscious Klingon. Iana quickly glanced at the Captain and continued to scan K’Mara.

Iana tapped her Comm badge and said =/\=EMERGENCY SITE TO SITE BEAM OUT… DIRECTLY TO SICK BAY = /\=

"I Hope the Captain is not upset…thought Iana as the two disappeared in the blue sparking light …

"I didn’t ask her permission and I might have overstepped my bounds but this is an emergency K’Mara’s life might be at stake…"

<<RVH Venture Sick Bay>>

Iana and K’Mara reappeared in sick bay. K’Mara was beamed directly to a bio bed and was immediately enclosed in the bio scanners…Lights were flashing and monitors beeping as the Doctor pushed Iana aside and began to work on K’Mara.

"What’s wrong with her Doctor… shouted Iana?

"I’ll let you know when I find out…you can leave now and let me work on my patient"’ said the Doctor with some impatience…

"Uhh…OK…sorry…I’ll get out of your way…Let me know the minute you find out what’s wrong with her…"

"Acknowledged…Sub-Lt., said the Doctor looking at Iana momentarily with a bit more empathy…I’ll let you know the minuet I have anything more to report"

<<RVH Venture Corridor outside of Sick Bay>

Iana turned and walked out of sick bay and headed to the nearest turbo lift.

<<<ON The Bridge>>>

Mnheia watched with surprise as the Klingon officer flew into a fit of rage and then collapsed. She watched as her science officer LaTrell rushed the Klingon to the sick bay. With in moments (it seemed anyway) she received a message through her Comm badge that the Klingon was in the Dr.'s care and LaTrell was walking back to the bridge. When she arrived Mnheia turned the operation of it back over to LaTrell and she walked over to the entrance to the Ready Room.

<<<Ready Room>>>

As Mnheia entered the room she saw that Selia was standing over at the other side and seemed to be trying to get away from her ‘company’…a very drunk Klingon. Mnheia smiled to herself and then scanned the room again looking for the Commander. ‘I am going to put an end to this…sooner or later and one way or another,’ thought Mnheia as she started to fume. Finding the Commander she stood behind him, tapped him on the shoulder and said, "Commander, I need to speak to you privately and now, please." Taken aback by the tone in her voice the Commander spun around and verified who was speaking to him. ‘Yes, it is the commander of this vassal,’ thought the Klingon. "Tell me, where do you want to go and what do you want to discuss?"

"This room should do nicely," said Mnheia as she pointed to a small room on the side of the Ready Room. She guided the Klingon to the room, turned on the light and shut the door.

"I have a proposition for you," started Mnheia. "I am sorry if I am blunt, but we do not have much time. I cannot allow you to take my proposition and discuss it in a committee or in fact take it anywhere. I need an answer from you and I need it now."

Intrigued, the Klingon just looked at Mnheia for a moment and then found a chair, sat down and indicated that she was to continue.

"Your officer, K’Mara, went into a rage and then collapsed. She was taken to the sick bay and the dr. there who is very used to treating Klingons reports that their condition is stable. She is unconscious, but stable." The Klingon just grunted when he heard this news. Then he looked to Mnheia as if to ask her to continue.

"Your ship was caught in a time loop. That is fact. My ship is on its way back to our HQ. That is fact. Since you have now accepted the peace treaty between our Federation and your Empire I am going to invite you back to the HQ’s. There they can make a decision to either send you back to the KSE or integrate you into the society there. Possibly they may find a way to send you back to your own time. I do not know. I do know that we cannot continue this ‘party’ forever. I can give you only 3 hours to present this idea to the members of your ship. I then need an answer as we need to start heading back. Ok?"

The Klingon Commander just looked at Mnheia with wonder in his face.

"I will take your words to my ship. We will get back to you in LESS then the 3 hours. I am pretty sure we will be proud to accompany you to your HQ and then make a case to them for allowing us to go back to the KSE."

With that said both the Klingon and Mnheia opened the door and walked back into the crowd.

Selia saw the Commander out of the corner of her eye, but like her the Commander was engages so Selia did the honorable thing and dealt with Kor. "Get him out of here please," she instructed two sub-lieutenants who were close at hand.

The two officer came and each took one end of Kor and the dragged him off to the side and out of the way.

Selia did not know about the medical drama and as it was her duty to linger as long as the Klingons were around she did just that. She felt considerably at eased and wished she could retreat to the safety of her engineering department.

Selia could feel that time was short. What were the Klingons up to anyway? They were behaving too much like Klingons and Selia thought that ironic. They were hiding something. Perhaps they weren't innocent victims of some temporal accident. Perhaps they had planned it that way to cause problems. Selia did not know much about Klingon culture but she knew there always had been factions within the Empire who wished to return to the Old Glory days of killing and conquest.

Selia paused for a moment and then placed herself as far away from Kor as she could without leaving.

"Do you want us to stay, Sub Commander?" the two officers asked.

Selia shook her head. "No, you may return to your duties."

The officers seemed more than happy to comply and left.

Selia wandered over to the nearest replicator and ordered up another Romulan Ale. "Extra tall glass, please."

The replicator produces the Ale in a nice cold glass that seemed too delicate to be around Klingons. But Selia did not care. She was just biding her time till her services were needed.

<<<Entering the Ready Room>>>

As Mnheia walked into the Ready Room and re-joined the ‘party’ with the Klingon Commander she was well pleased with herself. She had finally given the Klingon Commander a proposition:

<Snip>"Your ship was caught in a time loop. Ok?"<Snip> quote from Mnheia.

Inside she was proud of herself. She felt the proposition was reasonable and even though the Klingon might still be a Klingon she felt he could also be reasonable.

After all, taking them back to HQ and letting HQ sort everything out did seem logical…

But then there was that nagging feeling at the back of her neck that told her there was a bit more here then ‘long lost Klingons’. Shaking her head and shrugging off the feeling though Mnheia walked over to where she saw Selia. As she walk over she thought, ‘Perhaps I should air my thoughts to her. After all, she is logical and steady. But then again I think perhaps I will just let the situation go and let HQ deal with it.’

Mnheia found a couch and sat down before she got to Selia. She sat back well pleased with herself. After all, the ship was on its way home in only hours, the Klingons were more then likely on their way back to HQ with them, no other survivors had been located, all seemed well.

Iana nodded as the Captain departed the bridge leaving the Science Officer in charge. Iana stayed at her Science console and left the Big Chair empty.

Iana was thinking about the Klingon science officer and she could not seem to figure out just exactly what is was that K’Mara was keeping from them.

"What ever it is…thought Iana I can’t question her now…it’s out of my hands…for the present"

<<IKS Etam Bridge-A short time later>>

Commander Klang materialized on the Bridge of the Etam with Kor his Engineer and K'mel his Security Officer, His science officer was still in SickBay.

Klang did not acknowledge the bridge crew instead he immediately strode into his ready room and Kor and K’mel followed him .

A short while later the Klingons emerged from the ready room. Klang turned to his bridge crew and they all shouted in unison … "Qapla' batlh je" … SUCCESS AND HONOR.

"Open a channel to the Venture," Klang said to the Communications Officer.

=/\=I am ready to beam back to your ship… we have reached a decision =/\=

The Klingons disappeared in the Etam’s transporter beam and reappeared on the Venture. They were met in the transporter room by one of the Venture’s Security personnel.

"If you will follow me… …I will escort you to the captain"

"We would be honored"…said Klang, motioning for Kor and K'mel to fall in line behind him.

Mnheia looked up when she heard the Klingon Commanders voice. She thought that is was a bit strange that he was back with a decision so quickly.

"Pardon? What did you say? Something about dying of that much I am sure. Can you repeat it please?" said Mnheia as diplomatically as possible. "No wait, let me figure it out. My Klingon is a bit rusty, but…"

The Klingon commander repeated what he said slowly, so slowly is was as if he was talking to a child.

"I said ‘batlh bIHeghjaj’" repeated the Klingon.

"Let’s see, May…us, them you…yes you! May you..and we decided on die…May you die…good, timely, well.. Yes it is well! May you die well! HUH? What do you mean…May you die well? I don’t understand," said Mnheia in surprise.

The Klingon just smiled. And then laughed. In fact all the Klingons in the room both smiled and laughed. Especially when they saw the confusion on Mnheia’s face and heard the confusion in her voice.

Shortly after the laughter died down Mnheia noticed that all the Klingons started to leave the room.

'Strange,' thought Mnheia. 'I wonder where they are going?'

Nizzal had silently watched the proceedings around her, and was not liking what she saw. She wandered around a bit, catching snips of conversations, but keeping her distance for the moment as she wandered the room. As she walked around, she noted her crewmates reactions, as well as those of the Klingons. She had considered that they had seemed to have taken the news extremely well...especially for Klingons of that time period. She definitely was not enjoying the comments about a "non-aggressive" Klingon. She stayed, just long enough to make sure security was well in place. Then she excused herself and headed back for the bridge. She wished to do some other research.

<<RVH Bridge>>

It was several hours later, when members of the bridge and the other Klingons made their way back to the bridge. Nizzal had calmed down by then, and just completed some preliminary scans and such on the vessel. Something had been bothering her, every since the Klingons had beamed over. As she was silently working on her terminal,

An escalating argument had caused her to look up. The Klingon science officer, and LaTrell were having a heated discussion. Suddenly the Klingon screamed, and collapsed. LaTrell and her immediately beamed out to sick bay. Nizzal watched the incident. She turned, and returned to her console, silently tuned out to all around her until the Captain and the other Klingons arrived back on the bridge.

They went into her ready room. It must not have been much for them to discuss, for the door to the Captains ready room slid open shortly thereafter. Whatever was going on, they should soon find out.

The Doctor continued to work on the Klingon Science officer K’Mara.

"She seems stable now"…said the Doctor softly

Just as the Doctor was going to send a report on the Klingon’s progress … the Klingon leapt from the bio-bed and pointed a palm sized phaser at the Doctor and fired … point blank…

K’Mara proceeded to place several objects she had hidden on her person around the Sickbay. K’Mara then disappeared into a sparkling transporter beam.

Five seconds after K’Mara transported out the room…there was a tremendous explosion … fire and smoke filled the Sickbay.

Mnheia stood with a look of astonishment as she watched the Klingon Commander and his aids disappear in a transporter beam. She could only guess that they had transported back to their ship. Just then she felt a gigantic explosion that almost literally knocked her off of her feet. All the bells and whistles of the ship started to go off at the same time. Lights flashed and emergency beacons turned on.

‘What the…’ thought Mnheia.

Mnheia ran to the bridge area next to the briefing room.

<<On The Bridge>>

As she picked herself up she quickly turned to the security panel and asked Nizzal if she knew what had happened.

<<Nizzal>>

Pulling all this together Mnheia turned to see several explosions start in the briefing room. Another explosion went off in the doorway of the briefing room and Mnheia received the brunt of the force of that on. It unmercifully threw her across the room and against the communication panel.

Picking herself up she briefly wondered how this could happen. How the Klingons (and they were prime suspects at this point especially after telling them to ‘die well’) could do this after the friendship they had shown.

"Captain, the computer shows that the sick bay has been destroyed. The entire section has a hull breach. The computer has automatically sealed off those areas so we do not loose atmosphere," said the communications officer. (NPC)

Just at that moment the ceiling came caving in and girders hung from wires as sparks flew everywhere.

"Kill those lights and sirens," yelled Mnheia over the din. "Security, what is our status? Science, what is the outlook? Communication, do we still have communication?"

"Yes Ma'am, we still have communication. It is weak. The long range communication has been knocked out, but sub-space is still available."

"Contact HQ. Tell them what has happened…tell them about the unprovoked attack by the Klingons. Ask them to inform the Klingon High Command. Tell them as soon as we get a handle on the situation we will be coming home. Tell them we found no survivors with the exception of the Klingons. Tell them as soon as things settle down we will be coming home. Limping home is a better description. Ask them to send a ship out to us once we are close enough to HQ to assist us."

"Yes Ma'am, right away mam," responded the communication officer.

At that moment another explosion was felt somewhere deep in the ship. As the explosions continued for hours Mnheia’s eyes filled with tears.

‘My ship, my command…’ she thought over and over.

The ship began to rock violently. Claxons began to ring and the entire decks began to glow a reddish-green.

Selia had barely had time to return to return to her duties when all of this erupted. She knew the Klingons had returned to their ship. Was the Venture under attack?

"Readings quickly!" Selia shouted from her station.

The Centurion and other officers rushed about and other called up commands from their stations as all sought to ascertain the cause of the explosion.

"Sub Commander, engineering is destroyed!" the Centurion called out.

Selia's hands flew over her console and almost immediately she had the vital systems that ran through the sickbay on her display. "Damage control parties to sickbay at once!"

The Lieutenant who was in charge of damage control slapped an arm across her chest and bowed her head. "Oh my way, sub commander." She rallied her team and quickly vanished from engineering with a load of tools and equipment.

"Are we under attack?" Selia asked to the first who could answer.

In the orderly confusion that prevailed, officers summoned their displays and began to look for themselves.

"No sign of external attack," one Sub Lieutenant shouted.

"The Klingon ship seems peaceful," Another officer added.

Selia could not believe this, but somehow she suspected the Klingons were behind it. They had been too friendly for ones so trapped and lost out of time. "Status of defenses, quickly!"

The Centurion did a quick assessment and then reported back. "All of our shields are in tack, weapons systems in tact as well."
