Distinguishing Features: Although long lived, R’rian appears to be in his late 20’s despite his chronological age. He learned the importance of physical training when training with the Selayan mercenaries and the many years of continued training leaves him looking obviously fit. Because of his extensive traveling and his penchant to document each adventure, he is completely tattooed except for his face and neck.
Personal History
R’rian grew up in a strict military household with a step father who was a UTFP medical officer and academic mother. Even though he loved both parents very much, when he reached the age of majority, he rebelled and took on as an unskilled deckhand on an ultra massive class merchant ship, knowing they both wanted him to go on in his studies and apply to the Academy.
While on the merchant ship, UMCS Minnow, named after an obscure earth entertainment program, he befriended the ship’s physician. Having grown up around medicine and having a strong affinity for science, he was drawn to medicine and he spent every spare moment off duty learning from and assisting the ship’s physician. Whether treating the sick or injured or performing medical experiments, he couldn’t get enough.
His dedication and persistence paid off and he eventually became the physician’s official assistant. He stayed on in that position for 15 years until the Minnow was shipwrecked on Selaya in a radiation storm. The crew survived the crash and quickly sought transport away from the war torn planet.
R’rian stayed behind and joined a mercenary group as a marine medic aiding the Selayans against the Anticans. R’rian fought valiantly when necessary to protect his patients against the hostile forces of the Anticans, he knew his limitations and relied on the expertise of the trained combatants within his team. R’rian never advanced in rank as he was repeatedly disciplined for treating injured enemy forces as well. He fought and treated the injured for over three years of land battles and was blessed never to be wounded but on his first offensive insurgence on an attack vessel they were shot down over Antica the Antican capital.
R’rian never learned what became of the rest of the crew but he awoke a week later in an Antican prison hospital. Judging from the missing tattoos on his right arm he had nearly lost the arm. The Antican physicians had done a great job restoring his arm with not so much as a scar, but, it took him nearly a decade to sufficiently replace the lost tattoos.
In one of the ironies of war he was made whole only to have the Antican intelligence officers torture him. As a medic he had limited strategic knowledge. He persevered as best as he could. Before the Anticans could extract any secrets, the prison was decimated by Selayan artillery and he was able to escape into the city proper. He was disturbed by all the devastation around him. The city was overrun by wounded civilians.
Without hiding his identity, R’rian began treating the civilians with any supplies he could find or were given to him. The military did not attempt to recapture him and actually brought wounded to him when he was in proximity. He improvised technologies and networked with Antican physicians to treat as many as he could.
When peace was restored to the warring planet R’rian stayed for a while assisting various physicians, deepening his knowledge of medicine and natural medicine. His listening skills were put to good use providing an attentive ear to a host of retired warriors dealing with memories of war.
R’rian subsequently joined many medical missions to technically emerging planets providing basic relief from famine and disease. Although he had garnished a wealth of practical and natural medicine, it became more and more clear to him that his abilities were being limited by his lack of formal education. So, much to his mother’s delight he went back to school and became a physician. Not from any greater intelligence but from many years of practical first hand experience and exposure, he breezed through medical school and all subsequent residencies and boards in a year and a half.
R’rian was in his element. But he had to challenge himself beyond his comfort zone. He wanted to apply his medical skills to where he could do the most good and where he could assuage his constant need for adventure. The most logical choice was to join UTFP.
All four years at the academy challenged him to his very limits. While he was older than most of the staff, he was awed by their breadth of knowledge, their vast experience and the expertise and professionalism they all sought to bestow upon the cadets.
Although his step father has long passed he would be proud that R’rian not only chose medicine as a profession but chose to serve in the UTFP.
Family History
Siblings Names and Ages: None
Mother's Name: Line’ Pau
Father's Name: Emilien
Parents Status: His biological father R’rian, died before R’rian was born during the Borg invasion of El-Auria. He was raised by his step father Emilien, whom his mother married after their relocation to earth. His step father died 94 years ago after a distinguished career as a UTFP Medical Officer. His mother widowed again since then and is currently single. She is a young and vibrant 165 and she continues to teach history at Starfleet Academy.
Pets: A true mutt mixed species dog named Flash. R’rian found him barely alive in the rubble on Antica. It appeared he nearly lost his life protecting a young girl from a group of Selayan soldiers when the whole lot of them were hit with artillery. He was the only one lucky enough to survive. After R’rian treated and nursed him back to health, he has rarely left his side.
R’rian doesn’t know his lineage. Aside from his piercing green eyes and the dim glow his fur emits in the dark he looks every bit an earth German Shepard. Although he has never trained him Flash is perfectly obedient. He appears to know what R’rian wants before he wants it and not a day goes by where he doesn’t convince R’rian that he’s more intelligent than he is. R’rian doesn’t know his age but he still has the energy of a puppy. The two decades he has spent with R’rian bespeaks his alien origins.
Best friend: It is an ageless earth saying but in R’rian’s case his dog is his best friend. His vagabond ways and longevity have made it difficult to keep friends for very long although he makes them easily and treasures them always. Flash consoles and counsels him and never ceases to make him laugh. Especially when he need to laugh.
Post Secondary Education
Undergraduate: Distance Learning while serving in Merchant Marines, Biology
Medical School: Harvard - Abbreviated program - Internal Medicine - Trauma Surgery
Academy Minors: Indigenous medicine and folklore.
Hobbies/Interests
He is fascinated by all forms of transportation. Anything that is wheeled, winged or hulled he has to drive it! He collects folklore and indigenous medical knowledge and equipment. He also collects music from the earth’s late 20th and early 21st centuries.
Bad Habits/Vices
As he loves music but cannot sing he constantly taps out the rhythms to his favorite songs. Even with his combined natural and learned intelligence he objectively sees the illogic of being tattooed, but he has been addicted to tattoos since he left home nearly a century and a half ago. Only his longevity has stopped his tattooing, as he has simply run out of “real estate" to put them on.
Achievements
He summited the Earth mountain Everest without transport boosters or breathing aides. He also summited the Martian mountain Olympus Mons with just a breathing aide and what he could could carry on his back.
